Shaquille O’Neal returns to the desert on Monday for the first time since he was traded from the Suns in offseason.

O’Neal, who averaged almost 18 points per game last year, is struggled to fit in with Cleveland. His conditioning wasn’t up to par and it has taken him significantly longer to get into shape. That’s part of the reason why his minutes, points and rebounds are all way down.

"It's a big game Monday. We've got to take care of home court no matter who comes in. They're playing somewhat well so far. So we've got to make sure we take care of King James and the old Shaqtus,” Amar’e Stoudemire told the Arizona Republic.

The Suns are looking to extend their home win streak to 20 straight and they will get the Cavs on the tail end of a back to back. The Suns also caught the Magic on the second of a back to back 10 days ago, and earned a three-point home win in the process.

The Suns are looking to avenge a bad loss early this year to the Cavs. Phoenix faced the Cavs Dec. 2, a night after losing badly to the New York Knicks. Cleveland added to the Suns’ misery, winning the game 107-90.

Away for the holidays

Tonight’s game is the second of a crucial four-game road swing for Cleveland. After Monday’s game, the Cavs face Sacramento on Wednesday and the Lakers on Christmas Day.

''It is a difficult trip coming up. It is a good test for us. You know that every time that we get into focus mode, we play pretty well,'' O'Neal told the Akron Beacon Journal. ''We are going to a lot of nice cities, but we are going to be locked in as soon as we get on the plane.''

Watch Live at our Sportsbook

Phoenix guard Jason Richardson scored 22 points on 10 of 18 shooting Saturday night after sitting out Thursday’s game because of a hand injury.

A healthy Richardson is critical for Phoenix’s attack. The club’s offense isn’t nearly as potent without the sweet-shooting two-guard on the perimeter and Richardson’s absence is especially damaging with Leandro Barbosa still recovering from an ankle injury.

Putting it all together

The Suns will go for their 20th straight home win against the Cavs after a dominating 121-95 win over the hapless Wizards on Saturday night.

While the win didn’t come against a good team, it was how they won that had the Suns pleased afterwards. The Suns dominated throughout, taking a 16 point lead at halftime and did not allow the Wizards to make a run to get it close in the third quarter, opening up a 33 point lead in the quarter.

Stoudemire is playing his best basketball of the year, averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds over his last nine games and Steve Nash continues to do what he does best, distribute the basketball. He had 15 assists against the Wizards on Saturday.

Watch Live at our Sportsbook

Is there a better teammate in the NBA than LeBron James? Last year he pushed hard for Mo Williams’ All-Star selection and earlier this season he criticized coach Mike Brown for keeping Zydrunas Ilgauskas on the bench in a game the center could have set the record for most games played in a Cavs’ uniform.

Anderson Varejao is the latest to get an atta boy from King James.

"Andy is playing great basketball," James told the News Herald. "He's doing an unbelievable job of coming in and providing energy and helping our team win basketball games. He's always been huge at what he does for our team.

"When you talk about Sixth Man, what Andy does doesn't always show up in the box score," he said. "That's why he won't be part of that conversation because chasing down loose balls, taking charges and hustle plays don't show up in the box score."

Wigan Athletic Vs. Bolton Wanderers Live Streaming

Its just the right time to go for online soccer betting with Wigan Athletic taking on Bolton Wanderers at the DW Stadium. Wigan Athletic continues to struggle with only 2 points above the relegation zone. Bolton Wanderers are no better and are also hovering around the relegation zone. The two teams are separated by only two points and are fighting to avoid relegation. In their last meeting on 2nd May 2009 the two teams played out a goalless draw.

A very weak defense has been the cause for both Wigan Athletic’s and Bolton Wanderers’ poor form. Although Wigan Athletic won over Chelsea in the beginning of the season, their recent loss to Tottenham Spurs dented their confidence. To add to Wigan Athletic’s woes, Mohamed Diame was ruled out of the Bolton fixture due to ligament damage. Bolton Wanderers also have injury woes with Sean Davis and Gavin McCann sidelined with knee and ankle injuries, respectively. Fabrice Muamba is also suspended after getting five yellow cards.

Soccer Betting

However, as per online soccer betting sites, Wigan Athletic is expected to win in view of its recent triumphs over Bolton Wanderers. In the last three games between the two sides Wigan Athletic won two and one ended as a goalless draw. Online soccer betting enthusiasts also expect Wigan Athletic to pull off a win against Bolton Wanderers. However, it must be remembered that Wigan Athletic will enter the match as narrow favorites. The reason is that Bolton Wanderers are high on confidence after their 3-1 victory over West Ham and 3-3 draw against Manchester City. Soccer betting sites predict the match to be a high scoring one as both the teams have very poor defense.

Jason Scotland, the replacement for Mohamed Diame in the match against Liverpool is expected to play in the match against Bolton Wanderers.

With both the teams struggling online soccer betting would definitely be engrossing this Monday.

NBA recap Week 7: Rondo & Celtics winners of last 8

Rajon Rondo (Celtics)-11 PTS, 9.2 AST, 2.7 STL
Rondo was one rebound shy of a triple-double last night against the Bucks. While dishing out 13 dimes, Rondo also chipped in with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. He’s currently averaging a 4.6/1 assist/turnover ratio, one of the best in the NBA. The points are typical but the rebounds and steal are something to talk about.

Check out Basketball Betting - at our Sports Betting SportsBook

He is clearly going to make it on the 1st All-Defensive team and although not the biggest point guard in the NBA, Rondo is one of the better rebounders. Let’s just say he’s the Dennis Rodman of NBA point guards and has a knack for getting to every loose ball imaginable.

The Celtics are currently on an 8-game winning streak and are clearly one of the East’s best contenders to get to the NBA. ESPN.com’s John Hollinger has the Celtics (17-4) as his #1 team in this week’s power rankings and also has the Celtics at 100% odds for getting to the playoffs. Not even the Lakers can say that, but they do play in a harder conference. Game of the Week: 11 PTS, 13 AST, 9 REB in win over the Bucks.

Chuck Hayes (Rockets)-5.4 PTS, 6.7 REB, 0.6 BLK
If you want consistent, you want Chuck Hayes. The fourth year Houston Rocket has been playing consistently for his team ever since the team’s starter, Yao Ming, went down to a season ending injury.

Check out Basketball Betting - at our Sports Betting SportsBook

Hayes isn’t much of an offensive threat, but when you have guys like Luis Scola and Carl Landry picking up the slack, Hayes isn’t expected to produce that much. Many of the potential available minutes have been going to teammates Carl Landry and Luis Scola who are more proficient in the offensive game than Hayes.

He’s getting around 20 minutes a game, still enough to make an impact on the defensive side. Hayes has it tough going up against some of the best power forwards and centers in the Western Conference night-in and night-out. His ability to play solid defense is key to the Rockets playoff hopes.

Jodie Meeks (Bucks)-4.9 PTS, 0.4 AST
Meeks and the Bucks are losers of four straight, with Jodie seeing very little action in the last week. Boston took care of business last night and defeated the Bucks 98-89, where Meeks got zero minutes of playing time. The trouble for Meeks is that he’s not doing anything productive with the minutes he does get.

Check out Basketball Betting - at our Sports Betting SportsBook

In 17 minutes of play against the Wizards, Meeks was only able to put up two points on 1-3 shooting. His best statistic may have been the three fouls he racked up in that time, but needless to say, it’s been a battle for Meeks as a rookie.

He hasn’t played twice this week with head coach Scott Skiles leaving it up to his veterans to get the job done. It’s a continual up and down journey this season for Meeks, but his desire to get better will keep him in the NBA for a while.

Nets' woes continue in loss to Denver

The Nets' streak continues.

The Denver Nuggets cruised to another double-digit victory over the Nets as Carmelo Anthony paced his team in the 101-87 win.

The Nets are now 0-14 on the season. Turnovers, poor shooting, and early foul trouble plagued the Nets in this lopsided loss. Denver led by as many as 23 points in the third quarter.

Lawrence Frank said that this was the most frustrating loss of the Nets' season.

"I'm very, very disappointed and embarrassed," Frank said. "I would say it's unacceptable at all ends. We didn't play like we're capable of playing.

"I don't think it has anything to do with the streak," Frank said. "I think it has everything to do with tonight, we didn't bring it."

Anthony, the NBA's leading scorer, poured in 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting. After picking up his fifth foul early in the fourth quarter, he went to the bench and never returned. Nene scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Aaron Afflalo chipped in 15 points.

New Jersey opened the game on a 9-2 run but were promptly outscored 20-5. The Nets never recovered from the Nuggets' prolonged run in the first quarter.

Starting point guard Rafer Alston echoed Frank's sentiments about the lack of energy and intensity.

"For a team that's 0-13, you should be flying around the court on both ends and we weren't and that's disappointing," Alston said. "When things are going wrong out there guys are hanging their heads and getting frustrated instead of playing through it."

To add to the Nets' woes, Chris Douglas-Roberts and Brook Lopez picked up two early fouls apiece. Neither player ever got on track. Douglas-Roberts and Lopez, the Nets' two leading scorers, combined for nine total points. Examiner

Nuggets extend Nets NBA losing streak to 14 games

The New Jersey Nets slid closer to the NBA's record of 17 losses to start a season by dropping their 14th game in a row, falling to the Denver Nuggets 101-87.

Carmelo Anthony scored 27 points while Nene Hilario added 17 to spark the Nuggets past the Nets, who fell to 0-14.

The Nets are trying to avoid the record worst winless start at 0-17 set by Miami in their inaugural 1988-89 season and matched by the Los Angeles Clippers in the strike-shortened 1998-99 season.

Rafer Alston and Devin Harris each scored 19 points to lead New Jersey, which began a four-game western road trip with the loss. The Nets visit Portland, Sacramento and the reigning champion Los Angeles Lakers.

If they don't win before they face Dallas at home, the Nets will be trying to avoid setting a new futility standard against the Mavericks.

The latest loss adds to the pressure on Nets coach Lawrence Frank, who won his first 13 games after he was promoted to the job in January 2004 but now owns a losing streak even longer.

30. New Jersey Nets (0-13) — Lawrence Frank is the Charlie Weis of the NBA, only without the actual expectations to win. If the Nets challenge the record for most consecutive losses to start a season, will Frank survive with his job?

29. Minnesota Timberwolves (1-12) — Syracuse already has more wins in NBA arenas than the Wolves. At least Jonny Flynn can look at his pay stubs the next time he gets depressed about that.

28. Charlotte Bobcats (4-9) — Tyson Chandler is hurt again, this time dealing with a back issue.

27. New York Knicks (3-10) — A couple days after deciding they don’t need Allen Iverson, NY gets a combined seven points from their starting backcourt (Duhon, Hughes) in a loss to Boston.

26. Los Angeles Clippers (5-9) — Blake Griffin has a lot of catching up to do in the Rookie of the Year race.

25. Philadelphia 76ers (5-8) — Elton Brand responded to whispers of his being benched by averaging 19.7 points, 10.3 boards and 3.7 blocks in three games last week.

24. Memphis Grizzlies (4-9) — Zach Randolph (18.4 ppg, 9.9 rpg) is headed for another season of 20-10 with no All-Star consideration.

23. Indiana Pacers (5-6) — Friday’s loss to Cleveland was a replay of so many games last season, where the Pacers couldn’t hang onto a fourth-quarter lead as Danny Granger came up short in crunch time.

22. Sacramento Kings (5-7) — Tyreke Evans has averaged 24 points per game since moving to two-guard in Kevin Martin’s absence.

21. Golden State Warriors (4-8) — Monta Ellis played both ends of the floor like a leader and franchise player should in Friday’s win over the Blazers.

20. Washington Wizards (3-9) — Apparently that win over the Cavs last week was a fluke. The Wizards went back to underachieving and getting hurt right after.

BetRepublic offering various NBA Betting Tips & NBA Betting Tips. Check out our Sports Betting Community for more information.

19. Detroit Pistons (5-9) — Winless on their four-game West Coast road trip, but at least Rip Hamilton is expected to return soon.

18. Oklahoma City Thunder (7-7) — James Harden is starting to come around; he dropped 24 points on Orlando and 25 on the Wizards last week.

17. Toronto Raptors (6-8) — Obviously no matter what jersey he wears, Vince Carter will always be a thorn in their side.

16. San Antonio Spurs (5-7) — No truth to the rumors that Manu Ginobili’s latest injury (groin) was caused by a hitman working for PETA.

15. New Orleans Hornets (6-9) — Outside of Brandon Jennings and Tyreke Evans, Marcus Thornton has been the hottest rookie in the League. He’s averaged 21 points in his last three games as interim coach Jeff Bower gives him increased playing time.

14. Chicago Bulls (6-6) — Derrick Rose had his best game of the year over the weekend, giving the Nuggets 28 points, but Chicago blew a big lead in the process and got ripped apart by Chauncey and J.R. Smith.

13. Miami Heat (8-5) — Snapped a three-game losing streak by knocking off the streaking Hornets on Sunday. Miami’s defense is struggling; the last four games they’ve given up 106 points a night.

12. Milwaukee Bucks (8-3) — Yes, Brandon Jennings has been lighting it up (25.3 ppg, 5.5 apg) and has been the talk of the Dime office. But don’t let the record fool you just yet. Six of Milwaukee’s eight wins have been over the Wolves, Knicks, Warriors, Nets, Bobcats and Grizzlies. And you could really argue against the Pistons as a “quality” win.

11. Utah Jazz (7-6) — The Boozer handoff to Ronnie Brewer along the baseline play has been almost as reliable as the pick-and-roll lately.

10. Houston Rockets (8-6) — Ariza is awkward with the ball, Brooks is too skinny, the frontline is too short … and yet nobody is gonna want to see these guys in a playoff series.

BetRepublic offering various NBA Betting Tips & NBA Betting Tips. Check out our Sports Betting Community for more information.

9. Portland Trail Blazers (10-5) — If only they could play the Wolves every night. In three games against Minnesota this season (already?), Portland has won by an average of 24 points.

8. Denver Nuggets (9-4) — Super-easy schedule this week: Nets, at Minnesota, Knicks, then home for Minnesota. They could start Malik Allen and go 4-0.

7. Dallas Mavericks (10-3) — Squeaking out wins against teams they should beat, stepping it up against contenders; Dallas looks like one of those teams that is playing up or down to their competition.

6. Boston Celtics (10-4) — Before hitting the game-winner at MSG, Kevin Garnett missed an alley-oop and came down limping. Boston fans had flashbacks of last year, but there’s been no word that KG is feeling any after-effects.

5. Orlando Magic (11-3) — With Jason Williams holding down the fort at PG currently, and seeing Rafer Alston guide the Magic to the Finals in ‘09, is it possible that Jameer Nelson really isn’t all that crucial to Orlando’s success?

4. Cleveland Cavaliers (10-4) — Forget LeBron: How do you think Anderson Varejao would fare playing in the NFL?

3. Phoenix Suns (11-3) — Is Grant Hill having another resurgence at 37 years old? He’s rocking the old-school-ish fade, putting up 12 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, and we’ve seen him dunk on a couple guys.

2. Atlanta Hawks (11-3) — Mike Bibby’s ankle injury put the brakes on the League’s hottest team. He’s listed as day-to-day and Atlanta doesn’t play again until Thursday, though, so he has time to recover.

1. Los Angeles Lakers (10-3) — Pau Gasol is back, Andrew Bynum might be the best center in the West, and Kobe is just toying with defenses at this point. The Lakers should put in light work this week against the Knicks, Warriors and Nets.

NBA Betting Odds – Chicago Bulls vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The Chicago Bulls (6-4 SU, 4-6 ATS, 2-8 O/U) have won two straight games coming into tonight’s matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers (8-3 SU, 4-7 ATS, 6-5 O/U) and are looking to find the consistency that has eluded them so far this season.

The Lakers haven’t been playing very well lately, dropping two of their last three games SU and ATS despite getting a win their last time out.

Chicago is averaging a measly 90.4 points per game this season and is clearly missing former shooting guard Ben Gordon’s prolific outside shooting this season.

The Bulls are playing solid defense by allowing just 91.8 points per contest this season, but it’s kind of hard to win games when you’re giving up more points per game than you’re scoring.

The Lakers are averaging 101.5 points per game this season but haven’t been playing very good defense as they are giving up 98.5 points per game.

NBA Betting Picks

  • Bulls are 14-1-1 ATS in their last 16 vs. Western Conference.

  • Bulls are 1-6 ATS in the last 7 meetings.
  • Under is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings.
  • Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Los Angeles.

Charlotte Bobcats vs Philadelphia 76ers Live Streaming Betting Odds & Picks

For a team that's lost five in a row, the Charlotte Bobcats have still found a reason to be optimistic. The Philadelphia 76ers wish they could say the same. Stephen Jackson's debut gave the Bobcats an offensive boost that they'll hope paves the way to a win Wednesday night at the Wachovia Center, where Marreese Speights' injury and Elton Brand's struggle to bounce back from his may prompt the 76ers to revamp their frontcourt.

Needing to shake up an offense that was the NBA's worst (82.4 points per game) through nine games, Charlotte (3-7) acquired the disgruntled Jackson, a 20-point scorer the past two seasons, and guard Acie Law from Golden State on Monday for Raja Bell and Vladimir Radmanovic.

Jackson's debut came hours later, when he scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Bobcats' 97-91 loss at Orlando. Despite a fifth straight defeat, Charlotte's 91 points were the second-most it's scored in regulation and its 50.7 percent shooting was a season-high.

"I love him and he gives us flexibility,'' coach Larry Brown said. "We gave ourselves a chance to win without really having much organization. Now we just need to keep playing hard and together.''

Check out BetRepublic for more Sports Betting Tips
Somewhat overshadowed in Jackson's first game with the Bobcats was the performance of Flip Murray. The Philadelphia native, on his sixth team in five years, tied a career high with 31 points off the bench.

Jackson saw enough in his debut to be convinced Charlotte can contend for its first postseason berth.

"We just have to play together a little bit more and figure out how we all play and where we want the ball,'' Jackson said. ``We have a good chance of getting into that playoff run. We just can't dig ourselves too big of a hole right now.''

Jackson has averaged 17.4 points in leading his teams to four wins in their last five visits to Philadelphia.

The Bobcats have also won four of five against the Sixers (4-6), and Raymond Felton has been the biggest reason why. The fifth-year point guard, who's scoring 11.4 points while shooting 36.4 percent from the field, has averaged 21.2 points on 56.7 percent shooting and 7.0 assists in those meetings.

Miami Heat vs Atlanta Hawks Live Streaming Betting Picks Odds

The Atlanta Hawks credit their fast start this season to the confidence they gained in the playoffs the last two years.

The Hawks take on one of the teams that provided them some confidence when they host the Miami Heat on Wednesday.

Atlanta (9-2) advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals last season after winning its opening-round series against Miami (7-3) in seven games. Though coach Mike Woodson's club would be swept in the second round by Cleveland, Woodson said it still was a big step for a franchise that hadn't advanced beyond the first round in a decade.

Check out BetRepublic for NBA Betting

"The last two years being in the playoffs has put this team in a totally different light," Woodson said following his team's 99-95 overtime victory over Portland on Monday. "Now when they go on the court, they know they have a chance to win. ... It's kind of nice sitting on the top of the division."

Atlanta has won five straight to move one game ahead of Orlando, with third-place Miami one-half game further behind. Joe Johnson scored a season-high 35 points Monday against the Trail Blazers, including 18 in the fourth quarter and overtime to help the Hawks rally from a nine-point deficit at the start of the fourth.

It was the third consecutive game Atlanta held an opponent below 100 points.

"(Monday) was a perfect game as far as what Woody preaches," center Al Horford, who had 15 points and 10 rebounds, told the league's official Web site. "You have to be able to come out and defend every night because there are some nights you're not going to make anything, and tonight was one of those nights."

The win improved Atlanta to 5-0 at home this season. The Hawks won five of six against Miami at Phillips Arena last season, including three of four during the playoff series.

Miami will try to get its offense going on the road after being held below 90 points in consecutive home games. While the Heat were able to overcome shooting a season-low 39.3 percent in an 81-80 victory over New Jersey on Saturday, their problems on offense proved too much to overcome Tuesday in a 100-87 loss to Oklahoma City in which the Thunder went on 20-1 and 14-2 runs.

Brandon Jennings Drops 55 on Golden State Warriors

Brandon Jennings didn’t want to go to college. He believed that if he was going to play, it would be for a paycheck, so, unable to enter the draft due to the age restrictions, the highly touted point guard became the first player to forgo college and make the leap from high school to professional European basketball.

Choosing to sign a one-year contract with Italian club Lottomatica Roma, the Oak Hill Academy star who won every major player of the year award as a senior believed he would see a substantial amount of action, thereby increasing his notoriety for the following year’s NBA Draft.

But things didn’t go as planned. Jennings spent a majority of the season riding the bench. When he did play, he only averaged five points, two rebounds and one assist in 27 games while shooting just 35 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point land.

His struggles on the European stage would presumably hurt his draft status, but his lowly statistics did no such thing. The Milwaukeee Bucks selected the skinny 6′1″ 20-year-old with the 10th overall selection. Milwaukee thought enough of his talent not only to make him a top-10 pick, but also to let 23-year-old starting point guard Ramon Sessions leave via free agency. The job was Jennings’ whether he was ready to take the reins or not.

It appeared he wasn’t. He averaged a satisfactory 10 points and 5 assists during the preseason, but was woefully inconsistent, scoring three points and dishing one assist one game and then scoring 10 and racking up 12 assists the next. He had plenty of skeptics, and many deemed after the former performance that he simply wasn’t able to play in the NBA just yet. But, boy, has he proved them wrong.

Jennings narrowly missed out on a triple-double in his regular season debut against the Philadelphia 76ers. He scored 17 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and handed out nine assists, one rebound and one assist short of becoming the first player since Oscar Robertston to post a triple-double in his first game.

To prove this performance wasn’t a fluke, he scored 24 points the following night against the Detroit Pistons and 25 points three days later against the Chicago Bulls.

He struggled in his fourth game, posting a line similar to that in the preseason, scoring nine points on 4-16 shooting while compiling just three assists in 27 minutes. He has since bounced back from this mediocre performance in a big way. More at Bleacher Report

Hornets Vs. Suns Basketball Betting

Suns wretched the Hornets at US Airway Center, Eight Phoenix players scoring in double figures in this basketball match.

Scoring 18, Grant Hill showed his feat, Goran Dragic 14 while Channing Frye and Jason Richardson totaled 13 points each. Steve Nash checked in with 12 points and 10 assists for Phoenix.

Suns have a quick schedule in the Los Angeles for fighting with defending NBA champion Lakers Thursday night

"The Lakers are on a three day rest and at home, waiting on us, so tonight we were able to get in and play great basketball for the first three quarters and the starters had a chance to rest," said Stoudemire. "The second unit played great and got the win for us, so it felt good - we got a chance to really rest up and ice there in the fourth quarter."

The Suns shot a sizzling 63 percent (29-for-46) in the first half and racked up a whopping 75 points -- the most by a team in one half so far this season.

"I think we can play even better - we did a lot of things right on both ends of the floor, but the funny thing is I don't even think we're running yet," said Richardson. "So once we get to that where we're just up and down and going like we normally do, we'll be pretty good."

Chris Paul notched 25 points, six assists and four steals for New Orleans, which put the wraps on a three-game road trip and have dropped three of four. The Hornets have one road win in six tries this season.

"They got on us early and we were just trying to catch up all night," said Hornets center Emeka Okafor. "It's hard to win a game doing that, especially against a team as good as that. They do an excellent job spreading the floor and you have to commend them on how they play and they did a great job tonight."

Phoenix scored 40 in the first quarter to take an early 11-point advantage, which only grew before halftime. The hosts opened on a 14-2 run in the second with a Leandro Barbosa three-ball dropping for a 54-33 margin only 3 1/2 minutes in.

Richardson and Paul traded threes near the halfway point with Phoenix still holding a 16-point lead. A Dragic make from beyond the arc just outside the final minute brought the margin back to 21 before the Suns settled on a 19-point lead at the break, 75-56, with four different players already in double figures.

Phoenix kept pouring it on in the second half and an 11-3 surge provided an 88-61 advantage midway through the third. The hosts eclipsed the century mark upon entering the final 12 minutes, leading 101-77. Source: Temptos

Paul, Brown lead Hornets' rout of Nuggets

NBA - New Orleans Hornets - Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night
Chris Paul had 24 points and 10 assists on a sore ankle, Devin Brown scored 25 points and the New Orleans Hornets bounced right back from a blowout loss with a 112-84 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night.

David West added 17 points and nine rebounds in just New Orleans' second win in six games.

One night after the Hornets were routed 104-88 by the Lakers in the same building, they ended the Clippers' three-game winning streak with a dominant victory, opening a 31-point lead on James Posey's layup at the third-quarter buzzer.

Chris Kaman had 14 points and six rebounds for the Clippers, who lost their 10th straight to New Orleans, including six in Los Angeles. Rasual Butler had 14 points against his former Hornets teammates.

Los Angeles played without second-leading scorer Eric Gordon, who has a sore groin. Reserve forward Craig Smith then left in the fourth quarter with a cut on his right eye caused by Hilton Armstrong.

Ricky Davis scored 14 points for the Clippers, who lost four straight to open the season. They haven't won four in a row since the start of the 2007-08 season.

Peja Stojakovic scored 12 points in his first start of the season for New Orleans, which hasn't lost to the Clippers at Staples Center since Nov. 12, 2006.

The Hornets got a scare when Paul injured his left ankle late in the first half, coming down awkwardly on Butler's foot two steps after making a layup with 1:46 left. The U.S. Olympian had carved up Los Angeles' defense to that point with 7-of-11 shooting and speedy playmaking that left Baron Davis struggling to keep up.

Paul immediately went to the Hornets' locker room, but returned to start the second half with a ginger stride that disappeared once he started playing. New Orleans immediately jumped to a 21-point lead with seven straight points after halftime, and Paul's 10-for-14 shooting was a big reason New Orleans' five starters all got to sit out the fourth quarter.

Florida International vs. No. 4 North Carolina, 7:00PM: The anticipated regular season debut for head coach Isaiah Thomas and Florida International is slated for 7:00 pm. Unfortunately, it takes place in Chapel Hill. The debut probably won’t be a good one for Thomas.

Murray State vs. No. 12 California, 11:00PM: Head coach Mike Montgomery and the Golden Bears appear to be the favorite in a weakened Pac-10 this season, and they shouldn’t have much trouble against the Racers of Murray State.

Alcorn State vs. No. 17 Ohio State, 7:00PM: Alcorn State went 6-25 last season; it will probably be 0-1 after Monday night.

Albany vs. No. 25 Syracuse, 9:00PM: After an exhibition loss at the hands of Division II LeMoyne, the regular season cannot come quicker for the Orange. No worries though, they will be just fine in this one.

NBA roundup: Sunday's action on the courts

The Phoenix Suns were sluggish in their first afternoon game of the season — committing 16 first-half turnovers - but came on late to beat the Washington Wizards on Sunday.

"We just weren't really fresh today," point guard Steve Nash said after Phoenix downed Washington 102-90. "Maybe it was the first day game of the season. We really didn't have a great bounce to us, we didn't really push the ball, we weren't really aggressive to start. That was the difference.

"We had some chances to be up 15 or 20. We just didn't really have energy to us today, but mentally we were tough and stuck with it at times and got it done."

The Suns settled down, giving the ball away only five times in the second half, and beat the Washington Wizards 102-90 to improve to 6-1, matching the best seven-game start in franchise history.

Except for the 21 turnovers, the final score sheet looked fine. Four of the five starters had double-doubles. The only one who didn't, Jason Richardson, led the scoring with 22 points.

Channing Frye had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Amare Stoudemire added 17 and 12, and Hill had 13 and 13. Nash finished with 11 points and 17 assists, and the Suns had twice as many assists (30-15) as the Wizards.

"We try to make very simple plays, and then we'll take what the defence gives us," Suns coach Alvin Gentry said. "I thought we started trying to be a little bit too creative, and that's not really who we are."

Elsewhere in the NBA it was: Detroit 88 Philadelphia 81; Oklahoma City 102 Orlando 74; Portland 116 Minnesota 93; Sacramento 120 Golden State 107; and L.A. Lakers 104 New Orleans 88.

At Washington, D.C., the Suns never trailed in the second half as they beat the Wizards for the sixth straight time, including five in a row at the Verizon Center. Phoenix wraps up a five-game trip Monday at Philadelphia.

"The minute we start to say we're a certain calibre team, there's a danger," Nash said. "We just got to keep being humble, keep treating this as a project. It's going to take the whole season."

Turnovers, assists and the early start time were also on the minds of the Wizards. They've lost four straight, with turnovers either equalling or outnumbering assists in all four games.

Andray Blatche and Gilbert Arenas scored 20 points apiece, but Blatche ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, while Arenas was only 7-for-22 from the field and had four of the team's 17 turnovers. Caron Butler had 19 points, and Randy Foye 16.

"We're used to keeping pace with a team like that," Arenas said. "It was a one o'clock game. It was different."

The Wizards, playing without injured starters Antawn Jamison and Mike Miller, shot only 39 per cent from the field.

"It's been a never-ending thing here lately," coach Flip Saunders said. "We're struggling offensively, and that's putting a lot of undue pressure on the defence.

"We're just not there. We don't make that one extra pass. We're taking too many contested shots. If we were a hockey team, we'd have no hockey assists - you know, the pass that leads to the pass."

It didn't help that Blatche, the team's co-leading scorer, was on the bench for the final 4:34 of the game.

"He was dead tired," Saunders said. "He can't even run up and down the court. He had four straight mental mistakes. Andray can't play the major minutes."

Frye's three-pointer gave the Suns an 89-75 lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Wizards responded with an 8-0 run that included a pair of layups by Blatche. Brendan Haywood had a chance to cut the lead to four with about six minutes to play, but he missed two free throws, swinging the momentum back to Phoenix.

The Suns scored the next seven points, highlighted by Nash's pass that bounced between Blatche's legs and found Stoudemire for a driving dunk. The Wizards didn't get back within double digits until the final minute.

Pistons 88 76ers 81

At Auburn Hills, Mich., Ben Gordon scored 23 points and Ben Wallace added 16 rebounds for the Pistons, who held Philadelphia without a field goal the final six minutes.

NBA Thursday Night Preview – NBA Basketball Betting

After 16 games in the first two days of regular season action, NBA Basketball Odds takes it easy Thursday night for a pair of games featuring one home favorite (Portland) and one small road favorite when San Antonio tips off at Chicago.

The Spurs (-3) are already 1-0 on the season after a 113-96 home win Wednesday night against the New Orleans Hornets. NBA Basketball Odds at sportsbooks opened with the Spurs listed as high as four-point favorites but the Bulls have had support from bettors suggesting Chicago can build on a positive training camp. Chicago is 16-3 SU in its last 19 games at home and after a playoff appearance last season expectations are high in the Windy City.

Over/Under NBA Betting has led the total down one point from an opening total of 194, no doubt helped by a trend between these two teams that has seen five of the last six games land under the number.

In a game that tips off at 10:30 ET, a pair of 1-0 Northwest rivals will treat fans to the first of what promises to be a highly contested battle for the division title in 2010 when the Denver Nuggets travel to Portland (-7.5) to take on the Trailblazers.

Denver earned its first win of the season on 30 points from Carmelo Anthony which led the team past the Utah Jazz 114-105. The total has also stayed under in five of the past six meetings between these two teams but public money is calling for a reversal tonight as online wagering has inched the total above 200 at sportsbooks across the board.

Friday night the NBA Betting card goes back to full strength when 26 teams go into action, starting at 7 pm ET with the New York Knicks vs. the Charlotte Bobcats (-2.5) and the Milwaukee Bucks against the Philadelphia 76ers (-8).

Expect to see plenty of early line movement as bettors weigh in on the first full weekend of pro basketball betting of the season.

Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Yankees - Expert Picks

MLB wagering fanatics will get a chance to sink their teeth into all of the great action between the Philadelphia Phillies (100-71, +$908) and the New York Yankees (110-61, +$1,677). The National League champions advanced to this stage by defeating the Colorado Rockies in four games and the Los Angeles Dodgers in five. Meanwhile, Yankees betting fans got to the Fall Classic by sweeping the Minnesota Twins and dismissing the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in six games.

Having an entire week off between the closing game of the NLCS and the first game of the World Series has given manager Charlie Manuel plenty of time to set up his pitching rotation the way he wants it. It should come as no surprise to anyone that LHP Cliff Lee is his choice to try to take a 1-0 lead in this best-of-seven baseball gambling set.

Lee has gone 2-0 with a 0.74 ERA in this postseason, but he hasn't led the Phils to a 3-0 record by himself. His offense is averaging 7.0 runs per game in his starts in these playoffs. Keep an eye on 1B Ryan Howard, who has already knocked in 14 runs in this postseason. He is also one of four Phillies who is batting at least .300 in the playoffs.

The man given the task of holding that potent lineup down on Wednesday night will be LHP CC Sabathia. Manager Joe Girardi made the controversial decision to start LHP Andy Pettitte in Game 6 of the ALCS as opposed to giving the ball to his horse, but that risk has been rewarded, and now Sabathia will certainly be able to throw in three games if necessary in this series.

New York wagering aficionados are a perfect 3-0 with Sabathia on the hill in these playoffs. The southpaw is 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA, but much like Lee, he has gotten a ton of run support. The Yanks are also giving him 7.0 runs per game. Sabathia started one game against the defending champs this season, as he allowed three earned runs in eight innings of work in New York's 4-3 loss back on May 24th.

Even though they are -200 choices to capture the World Series, the Yankees have only been lined at -165 on the MLB wagering line on Wednesday night. The baseball gambling 'total' has been set at 7.5 over -120.
